M300DP Auto-Start Module

Auto-Start and I/O Expansion Module for MBW Engine Controllers

Designed to operate in conjunction with MBW engine controllers, adding auto-start capability and additional I/O

The M300DP Auto-Start Module is a compact, reliable expansion I/O module designed to add unattended auto-start functionality and additional I/O capability to MBW engine control systems. Installed within MBW M154B or M154P Series control panels, the M300DP expands system capability with additional analog and discrete inputs for monitoring and remote engine speed control.

In Auto-Start mode, the M300DP provides a configurable throttle profile that ramps the engine RPM using up to two intermediate speeds before reaching the final target RPM. This controlled ramping improves engine stability during startup and shutdown events and is well suited for pump, standby, and industrial applications.

The M300DP is not intended to function as a standalone engine controller. It operates in conjunction with MBW engine controllers, which provide the primary display, configuration interface, and core engine control logic.

Key Capabilities

The controller provides automatic engine start and stop control through discrete inputs, along with configurable throttle profiles that allow smooth intermediate speed ramping. It supports expansion I/O for additional system monitoring and operates in both Auto-Start (A/S) Mode and Expansion I/O Mode. Remote engine speed control is available using configurable digital inputs, and the unit is specifically designed for seamless integration within MBW M154B and M154P Series control panels.

Operating Modes

Auto-Start (A/S) Mode

In Auto-Start Mode, the M300DP enables unattended engine operation based on discrete input triggers. Typical functions include:

  • Engine start and stop sequencing
  • Programmable start delays
  • Throttle profile control during startup and shutdown
    • Ramping through Speed 1, Speed 2, and final engine speed

Auto-Start Mode is commonly used in applications such as tank level control, where a float switch triggers engine start and stop events.

Expansion I/O Mode

In Expansion I/O Mode, auto-start functionality is disabled and the M300DP operates strictly as an I/O expansion module. In this mode, the module provides:

  • Two additional analog inputs
  • Two digital inputs for remote speed selection or control logic

Inputs & Outputs Overview

Analog Inputs

  • 2 Analog Inputs (AI1, AI2) configurable for:
    • Fuel level senders (US 240–33 Ω and Euro 10–180 Ω)
    • Oil pressure senders (5 bar and 10 bar ranges)
    • Water level sensing (US 240–33 Ω and Euro 10–180 Ω)

Analog inputs are available in all operating modes.

Digital Inputs

  • 2 Digital Inputs (DI1, DI2) configurable for:
    • Start
    • Stop
    • Start/Stop
    • Start Inhibit
    • Speed 1 or Speed 2 selection

Input active state (normally open or normally closed) and timing delays are user configurable.

Outputs

  • Starter control output
  • Ignition control output
  • Alarm output (low-side switch closure to ground)

Engine Speed & Throttle Control

The M300DP provides programmable engine speed control through discrete input selection and configurable throttle profiles.

  • Up to three programmable engine speed setpoints (engine-dependent)
  • Configurable ramp-up and ramp-down times
  • Controlled acceleration and deceleration to reduce mechanical stress

Throttle profiles allow the engine to transition smoothly between idle, intermediate speeds, and final operating RPM.

Integration & Compatibility

  • Requires an MBW engine controller
  • Not intended for standalone engine control
  • Configuration performed through MBW controller interface
  • Designed for integration in pump, standby, and industrial systems

The M300DP Auto-Start Module is designed to operate in conjunction with MBW engine controllers and control panels. It relies on the primary MBW controller for engine control logic, operator display, configuration, and alarm handling.

The M300DP adds auto-start functionality, remote speed control, and additional I/O capability, but it does not function as a standalone engine controller and is not intended to operate independently of an MBW control system.

When properly integrated, the M300DP communicates with an MBW controller to execute start/stop sequences, throttle profiles, and speed commands based on configured inputs and application requirements.

Typical Applications

  • Industrial pump systems
  • Standby and backup equipment
  • Automated engine start applications
  • Retrofit installations requiring auto-start capability
